Greatly improved 50 MP camera with 12 MP super wide angle

COLORFOTO magazine tested the new Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone in its current 3/2022 issue, which is available for around 850 euros without a cell phone contract. The test focused on the impressive camera data of the integrated digital image sensors and optical elements.

The Google Pixel 6 Pro is the flagship of Google’s sixth generation Pixel smartphones equipped with Android 12 operating system, 128+12GB storage (256GB optional), 6.7-inch AMOLED display in 120Hz and HDR10+, and 1440×3120 pixel resolution. It has an octa-core CPU. A card slot is not available. 2 SIM cards can be used, LTE is set as the network, 5G is not available.

The camera has been greatly improved in the current model: the smartphone has three cameras. The Pro model is not equipped with a separate telephoto camera. The sensors have a native resolution of 50 megapixels. However, the pictures are always saved with 12 megapixels. Thus, the maximum resolution is not exhausted. However, the new Google Quad technology is used, which operates with multiple exposures and thus achieves very good results in low-light situations, for example. However, via the expanded data base of the 50 MP sensor and pixel binning, the quality of the 12 MP image is “brachially” increased, according to COLORFOTO in the test.

Unlike professional cameras, the user cannot manually set exposure and aperture data. This is always done by the Google Pixel 6 Pro’s automatic. The focus point can be determined via the touchscreen, which also adjusts the exposure to the selected spot. In addition, flash and timmer can be selected. There is also a separate night mode. The photo data is saved in RAW and JPEG format.

The super wide-angle camera module features 17 mm optics. The main camera works with a 25 mm lens. Tas tele module features an impressive 104 mm lens. In COLORFOTO’s test, the 4x telephoto convinces with detailed imaging and still with good results even in the dark. In comparison, the wide-angle camera cannot quite keep up in zoom mode, according to the test, and is also rated as “still decent” by COLORFOTO.

Overall, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is tested by COLORFOTO with 82 out of 100 possible points and rated as a “buy tip”. The smartphone thus lands in the top group of the best list.
